features
Macroscopic features
The 0.5-1 cm wide, outward cream-colored to pale beige-gray fruiting bodies are more or less spherical, flaky and woolly smooth interior, they tear when ripe and are at the end of bowl-shaped with a wide opening. Inside there are lenticular spore packets about 1 mm in size. Those beige-gray to brown peridioles are embedded in a gelatinous mass. However, contrary to the expensive ones, they are not attached to the bottom with a hyphae (funiculus).
Microscopic features
The egg-shaped to elliptical spores are 6–9 µm long and 5–6 µm wide.
Ecology and phenology
The nestling, which is very rare in Germany, grows as a saprobiont on branches and pieces of wood lying on the ground, including tree stumps and trunks of deciduous and coniferous trees lying on the ground. He often prefers sunny spots such as clearings or wood storage areas.
The fruiting bodies appear mostly in October and November.
meaning
The stuffed nestling is out of the question as an edible mushroom and is economically insignificant.
