Volmershoven-Heidgen is a district of Witterschlick in the municipality of Alfter in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The place is in the southernmost part of the municipality and administratively belongs to the district Witterschlick.

Geographical location

Volmershoven-Heidgen is located in the immediate vicinity of the city of Bonn on the southeastern edge of the Villehöhe between the villages of Witterschlick and Buschhoven and the Bonn-Hardtberg district on a small body of water called Hardtbach .

Heidgen is located above Volmershoven on the edge of the Kottenforst nature reserve and the foothills with its typical agriculture . The common land (part of the communal corridor) was once located above the villages and was referred to as heather because of the less fertile soil . In the course of time, new settlement centers have emerged here and the heath above Volmershovens became the place name Heidgen or Heidchen.

Surname

The name Volmershoven is a Franconian place name (approx. 8th to 11th century). Around 60 settlement names with the suffix -hoven or -koven can be identified in the Bonn area . Volmershoven stands for Volkmareshoven (= Hof des Folkmar or Volkmar).

Culture

The cultural life in Volmershoven is reflected in the many local associations. There is a sports club (SC Volmershoven-Heidgen), a tennis club (TC am Hardtbach), a singing club (Chorgemeinschaft Eintracht Volmershoven-Heidgen from 1897 eV), a bachelor club, a church choir, a Catholic youth group, a children's and Youth singing group and a carnival club ("Herzblättchen"). The village also has its own carnival parade and has its own prince couple . In addition, a fair , a May festival with the erection of the maypole by the bachelor club and a village festival every two years. Every year (July / August) a public cultural event of the Alfter cultural group takes place in Volmershoven in the Simonshof of the Six family. Announcement in the local press and on posters.

Economy and Infrastructure

Due to its rural character on the one hand and its close proximity to the city of Bonn on the other, Volmershoven-Heidgen is a popular place to live.

Public facilities

In the village there is a petrol station, a Catholic church, two kindergartens (a community and a private Waldorf kindergarten ), a sports hall and a soccer field as well as various clubs. Until the 1990s, Volmershoven also had its own school. The school building was used as a dormitory for asylum seekers from the time the school closed until autumn 2006. In 2013 the building was demolished after standing empty for a few years.

Volmershoven-Heidgen is connected to the road network via state road 113 , which leads north to federal road 56 and south to Rheinbach and Meckenheim (Rhineland) . The place also has two bus lines and in the immediate vicinity (Witterschlick) there is a train station of the Voreifelbahn ( KBS 475 or S 23 ). There are good connections to the cities of Bonn, Euskirchen , Rheinbach and their suburbs.
