history

Roland Meyer de Voltaire

Since 2003 Voltaire played in the final line-up. Founding members were the namesake of the band Roland Meyer de Voltaire and Hedayet Djeddikar, shortly afterwards Marian Menge followed. Bass and drums were later occupied by Rudolf M. Frauenberger and David Schlechtriemen. The first release, the "white single" with Sonne , Heute und Wo , was produced in-house in the Stonehenge Studio in Bonn, where the EP and album were later recorded. In 2004 a record deal was signed with Motor Music . After the separation of Motor and Universal Music, the band stayed with the latter and has been under contract with Vertigo ever since . On November 8, 2004, the Flut EP was released , a success in the music press.

In 2005 the band used to touring, among other things as the opening act for I Am Kloot , Saybia and Madsen - they also went back into the studio and produced their first album Today is Every Day , which was released on March 17, 2006.

The band's sound is unique, but also has echoes of Coldplay , Radiohead and Muse . German-speaking singing often moves in the head voice and is similar to that of Jochen Distelmeyers or Thom Yorke . In a list of five bands, Rolling Stone counted Voltaire among the bands that could break through in 2006.

After a long period of pre-production, the band recorded their second album in July 2008, which was released on March 27th under the title The Last Bit of Etiquette . Singer and lyricist Roland Meyer de Voltaire was responsible for the production, while Jem was co-producer and mixer. The first preliminary single Die gute Art was released in autumn 2008 on the Belgian record label PIAS. During a tour of Russia, the third release So quiet from the album was also recorded in Russian and was released as a single in January 2010.
