Lecture assistant
A lecture assistant is an employee of a university or college who supports lectures . He is responsible for planning, setting up and implementing all scientific experiments in the lecture halls . In advance, he advises the lecturers on possible experiments for the upcoming event.
Accordingly, it is mainly used in the natural sciences, physics and chemistry , but is also used, for example, in some medicine or mechatronics lectures. In addition, depending on the scope of his area of responsibility, he can advise the university administration on technical issues, such as the redesign of classrooms for students with physical disabilities . Lecture assistants have a wide variety of professional backgrounds, but most of them have an academic degree in the relevant subject. Often they are former teachers, but research assistants and doctoral students also take on this role. Some work part-time as course instructors at adult education centers .
In the first semesters of the Physics degree program, the fundamental laws of physics are conveyed with the help of a series of well-known physical demonstration experiments, which the lecture assistant develops, procures, builds, demonstrates, maintains, and repairs appropriately and properly stored in the lecture collection.
For the field of experimental physics , the lecture assistant conference (VAT) serves as the most important training measure and exchange platform in the German-speaking countries. It took place for the first time in 2003 and has been held annually at a university or college since 2007. In addition, several workshops are offered nationwide in Germany .
