The company was the first in Europe to manufacture mechanically operated straight and contra-angle handpieces . Product history

W&H Dentalwerk Bürmoos, Plant II

In 1895, W&H manufactured a universal handpiece with an adjustable head tilt in order to get optimal access to the treatment site. The first filing contra-angle made in 1926, the so-called cursor , simplified root canal preparation .

  • 1939 first step drill . With the help of this machine, dental treatments could be carried out independently of the current. By pressing a pedal - similar to a mechanical foot-operated sewing machine - the drills could be set in rotation.
  • 1959 first shoulder drill on the market. This made outpatient dental treatment possible so that bedridden patients could also be treated.
  • 1960 Turbo 60 , first dental turbine
  • 1978 first Roto-Quick coupling on the market. This allowed the instruments to be rotated freely and easily through 360 ° and made changing instruments easier.
  • 1979 first push button clamping for turbines. For the first time, the drill could be changed by pressing a button on the back of the instrument head.
  • 1983 Elcomed , the most powerful and fastest small surgical device to date. The engine achieved a drive speed of up to 45,000 rpm.
  • 1989 a special endo-contra-angle handpiece . The root canal was prepared using so-called aleatoric, i.e. random, movements instead of a rigid sequence of movements. This enabled the endo file to better follow the natural course of the root canal.
  • 1995 898 LE ( Low Emission ), a quiet turbine. Thanks to the high power transmission, the idle speed could be reduced to 300,000 rpm.
  • 2001 Implantology engine for detailed work with dental implants
  • 2007 Synea generation of turbines with sterilizable light emitting diodes
  • 2007 Introduction of surgical handpieces and contra-angles with generator technology
  • 2009 contra-angle handpieces of the Alegra series with independent sterilizable LED light
  • 2013 Turbine with sterilizable fivefold LED ring in the head of the instrument for shadow-free illumination of the treatment area
  • 2013 Piezomed , a surgical drive with automatic tip recognition
  • 2013 Assistina 3 × 3 , a device for automatic internal and external cleaning and oil maintenance for turbines, handpieces and contra-angles
  • Three innovations in 2015: the Lisa sterilizer , an accelerated type B sterilization cycle and a system for real-time remote monitoring via Wi-Fi
  • 2016 Primea Advanced Air dental turbine, first air-operated dental high-speed drive with electronic air control for constant removal rate
  • 2018 first surgical device with implant stability measurement. Using resonance frequency measurements, the device can determine both the primary stability of implants and the optimal point in time for loading the implant.
