Wetterschmöcker is a Swiss documentary film by Thomas Horat from 2009. It deals with the so-called " Central Switzerland meteorologists ".
action
In central Switzerland, and especially in the Schwyz region , a traditional type of weather forecast has been preserved. It is not based on satellite data and computer models, but on observations of the behavior of animals and plants, on the cloud images and the winds. A group of local men act as weather prophets, here called Wätterschmöcker. The dialect term translates as weather-tasters and means that these men taste, smell and feel the weather. The film accompanies the weather prophets in their everyday lives. This also includes the six-monthly meetings of the Innerschwyzer Meteorologen Association, which has existed since 1947. It was founded when the radio weather forecast became more and more important and wants to preserve and maintain the tradition of the weather prophet.
The portrayed in the movie forecasters are: Martin Holdener "Muser" Benny Wagner "Geissdädi," Martin Horat "Wättermissionär" Peter Suter "Sandblaster" Karl Reichmuth "ibex hunters," Alois Holdener "Tannzäpfler" and Schinner Peter, who no nickname has .
production
The film was made between 2007 and 2009 and was shot in the region of Schwyz and Einsiedeln: around the two myths in Ilgau, in Hinterbergen in the Stoos area , in the Riemenstaldental and in the Muotatal . It premiered at the Mythenforum Schwyz in 2009. music
The music for the film was composed especially for the film by the musicians of the local folk music formation Hujässler . The formation has existed since 1998 and consists of younger musicians who interpret traditional Swiss folk music in a modern way. They can also be seen in a scene in the film and they play in an alpine inn to entertain the audience.
