The Württemberg is a former paddle steam tug that has been converted into a ship museum in Magdeburg . The Württemberg was built in 1908/1909 in the Roßlauer Schiffswerft Gebrüder Sachsenberg .
history
The ship was on the Elbe for the Neue Deutsch-Böhmische Elbschiffahrt AG Dresden in use. During the Second World War , the Württemberg was damaged in a low-flying attack near Zehren . The ship suffered further damage when a fire broke out on the forecastle of the Dresden- Laubegast shipyard . Reconditioned, it was used from 1946 to April 30, 1974 for the Deutsche Schiffahrts- und Umschlagbetriebszentrale (DSU) and its legal successor, the VEB Deutsche inland shipping company of the GDR .
In December 1974 the Württemberg was towed to the Elbe meadows in front of the Magdeburg town hall on the Rotehorn Island during floods . It was then converted into a museum. A restaurant was also started.
After the flood in 2002, in which the interior was damaged by the water, the museum ship and the restaurant have been open again since October 2006 after complete interior renovations.
