Włodzimierz Kuroczyński (born September 1, 1950 in Pabianice ) is a Polish-born general surgeon and cardiac surgeon as well as a university professor .

biography

Włodzimierz Kuroczyński studied medicine at the Łódź Medical Academy between 1968 and 1974 . He then worked as an assistant to Prof. Jan Moll at the leading clinic for cardiac surgery at the Institute for Cardiology of the Medical Academy Łódź, where he obtained his doctorate in 1983. In 1984 he graduated and specialized in general surgery.

While working with Prof. Jan Moll, he was particularly involved in the treatment of congenital heart defects . He played a leading role in the introduction of continuous aortic suturing in end-to-end anastomosis in the surgical treatment of coarctation . In addition, he played a key role in the introduction of the ventricular septal defect closure over the right atrial access.

1984 was the first in Poland to perform interventional balloon dilatation in congenital valvular pulmonary stenosis .

In 1989/90 he received a scholarship at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , where he worked from mid-1990 with Prof. Hellmut Oelert in the Clinic for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery of the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In 1996 he specialized there in the field of cardiac surgery and henceforth works as a senior physician .

In 2003 he obtained the academic title of private lecturer with his habilitation thesis on the subject of Congenital Heart Defects: A continuous challenge to the further development of cardiac surgical treatment concepts in the Clinic for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery of the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

From 2005 he headed pediatric cardiac surgery in the Clinic for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery of the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and introduced the extracardiac Fontan operation . In the surgical treatment of the transposition of the great arteries , he introduced the technique of direct reconstruction of the pulmonary artery . He retired in 2015.

From 2016 to 2018 he taught as a professor in the branch of the Poznan Sports Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski .
