Włodek Pawlik , actually Włodzimierz Pawlik (born October 4, 1958 in Kielce ), is a Polish jazz pianist and composer .

Live and act

Pawlik studied piano at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw and included jazz studies at the Academy of Music in Hamburg on. He made his record debut in 1987. He has been the leader of the Włodek Pawlik Trio since the early 1990s. His trio with saxophonist Richie Cole released their first album in 1993 from a gig in Hamburg under the title Live at Birdland . The trio also performed with jazz greats such as Randy Brecker , Billy Hart , Scott Hamilton , Mike Stern and Tom Kennedy . Pawlik has received numerous awards. In Poland he was voted jazz musician of the year several times. In addition to jazz music, Pawlik composed the music for several films. His first film music was written in 1994 for Dorota Kędzierzawska's film Wrony . He also wrote the music for Peter Greenaway and Marleen Gorris films . In 2009 he was honored for his music for the film Rewers at the Polish Film Festival Gdynia .

To mark the 1850th anniversary of the city of Kalisz , one of the oldest cities in Poland, Pawlik held a concert in June 2010 under the title Night in Calisia . In 2011 he recorded the music he composed especially for this event with rumpeter Randy Brecker, his own trio with Paweł Pańta and Cezary Konrad, and the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra. The album was released in 2013, was nominated for a Fryderyk and in 2014 was awarded a Grammy Award for best album by a large jazz ensemble .
