history

Today's furniture store WEKO was founded in its original form in 1948. Alois Weber, owner and operator of a mill and a sawmill in Kohlstorf (in today's Arnstorf ), laid the foundation stone for the WEKO furniture store with the establishment of a carpenter's workshop and entry in the trade register on November 3, 1948. The company name is an acronym and is derived from the first two letters of his surname and the first two letters of the location ( WE about KO hlstorf). Son Helmut Weber was nine years old at the time. The father let Helmut Weber learn several trades. After training as a miller and carpenter , Helmut Weber completed his studies as an engineer for wood and plastic technology in Rosenheim .

Central warehouse in Poznan

After several years of practice in northern Germany, Helmut Weber returned to Kohlstorf in 1963 and took over the family business. He made coffee tables in small numbers. At that time he started trading furniture .

In 1972, Helmut Weber built the first furniture store in Linden ( Hebertsfelden ), the number of employees grew to around 25.

In 1986 Helmut Weber built a new furniture store on the B 388 in Linden. The building has 31,000 m² of retail space, 16,000 m² of which is exhibition space. The company employed 185 people at that time.

In 1994, this location became too small for the expanding company. Since there was no possibility of expansion in Linden, Helmut Weber built a new furniture store in Pfarrkirchen. On August 4, 1994 the total of 68,000 m² of business space, including over 30,000 m² of exhibition space, was opened. 450 employees are working in the company at this time. 120,000 articles are offered in 49 departments on four floors. There is also a supervised children's area and a panorama restaurant.

At the former WEKO location in Linden, another pillar was established in 1995 - the SCHLEUDERMAXX. Conceived as a special item market with self-service furniture, it offers customers furniture, household items, home textiles, drugstore items, lights, tools, toys, car and bicycle accessories and many other item ranges. 40 people are employed in Linden.

On December 18, 2003, WEKO opened the third pillar of the corporate group with an additional location in Rosenheim. More than 120,000 articles are offered on 30,000 m² of exhibition space. The retail space in Rosenheim is 66,000 m². 380 people are employed. There is also a restaurant with a panoramic terrace. In 2011, a planned expansion of the range was criticized by the Rosenheim retail trade.

The second SCHLEUDERMAXX opened in Rosenheim's Aicherpark on July 16, 2009. An assortment of self-service furniture, housewares, home textiles, tools, lights, drugstore items and other post items are offered on 5,500 m² of exhibition space. 23 people are employed there.

In November 2009, the first WEKO kitchen specialist opened just outside Munich . In Eching , 120 model kitchens are presented on 5,000 m² of exhibition space. There is also a technology and granite studio. The kitchen range is complemented by various household goods. Various cooking courses are offered in an integrated, in-house cooking school.
