Wachendorf is a district of the municipality of Starzach in the Tübingen district in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).
geography
The district area of the place Wachendorf is 691 hectares .
The following places border Wachendorf, they are named starting in the north in a clockwise direction : Bieringen , Frommenhausen , Bietenhausen 2 , Höfendorf 2 , Trillfingen 2 , Bad Imnau 2 , Bierlingen and Sulzau . The neighboring places belong to the district of Tübingen or to Zollernalbkreis 2 .
history
The place consists of the village of Wachendorf, which was first mentioned in a deed of donation around the year 1099, and of the Wachendorfer holiday area, which was founded in 1972. The holiday area is about one kilometer from the village. The holiday area initially consisted of 74 wooden houses in Scandinavian style, a large apartment hotel, sports fields, a mini golf course and tennis courts. A planned outdoor pool was not implemented for cost reasons. As a hotel, however, it was only used briefly. After a dormitory planned for the Transcendental Meditation movement in 1983 , which was prevented by the population, it served as a dormitory for emigrants from the former USSR. Today it is mostly inhabited by the owners themselves. The hotel is visible from afar.
On January 1, 1972, Wachendorf was incorporated into the new municipality of Starzach.
In 1991 the community of Starzach acquired the former sewing building of the Heinzelmann company on the outskirts of Wachendorf and converted it into a light-flooded multi-purpose hall. This is where the Starzach rifle club and its new rifle house also settled.
population
Wachendorf has 1244 inhabitants (as of December 2015). With a district area of 6.91 km², this corresponds to a population density of 180 inhabitants per square kilometer .
Wachendorf Castle
In the middle of the village, the old and new castle of the Barons von Ow -Wachendorf is located next to large barns, outbuildings, the church and the rectory. Together with the extensive castle garden , they contribute to the appearance of Wachendorf. In 1893 Hans Otto von Ow donated a forest chapel to Baron von Ow-Wachendorf. Since then it has risen above the foundations of the high medieval castle east of Wachendorf above the Starzeltal.
Infrastructure
The old school was converted into the town hall in 1966. In 1960 the second school was built, but it was converted into a kindergarten in 1992. Today there is therefore a large kindergarten, but the schoolchildren have to go to the primary school in Starzach-Bierlingen. Secondary schools are in Rottenburg am Neckar and Horb am Neckar.
Wachendorf is one of those settlements that were not built on a stream or river. The drinking water supply used to be secured by six pumps and draw wells. Today, Wachendorf gets half of its drinking water from the Lake Constance water supply and half from the region.
