The VEB motor vehicle work "Ernst Grube" Werdau was a state-owned enterprise in the Saxon town of Werdau and emerged in 1952 from the VEB LOWA Werdau ( Lo komotiv- and Wa ggonbau ) and this in turn from diverse, always specializing in railroad cars, factories. He belonged to the IFA - Kombinat trailer and was after the resistance fighters pit Ernst named.
During the GDR , there were further parts of the business in Reichenbach ( Karosseriewerk Reichenbach ), Markkleeberg and in Olbernhau ( Fahrzeugwerke Olbernhau ).
Company history
Origins
The company was originally founded in 1898. Until 1917 the company name was Sächsische Waggonfabrik Werdau GmbH . Until 1928 the company was initially continued as Hermann Schumann AG and then until 1932 as the Linke-Hofmann-Busch group . During the time of National Socialism , it was continued as Fahrzeugbau Schumann GmbH and after 1946 it was renamed Waggonfabrik Schumann-Werke of SAG Transportmittel and until it was converted into a state-owned company in 1948 as Waggonfabrik Schumann-Werke . By 1952 the company was renamed VEB Lowa Waggonbau Werdau .
Products
In the course of the eventful history, in addition to road vehicles, freight and passenger wagons , trailers, superstructures on trucks , engine parts for airplanes, buses , bus trailers , trolley buses , trams and trucks as well as trailers , semi-trailers and superstructures on these vehicles have been manufactured. Later, at the Werdau site, specialization took place in the direction of superstructures for trucks, trailers and semi-trailers, and here in particular in the field of distribution traffic.
The best-known products of the Ernst-Grube-Werk were the G5 , H6 / H6B , S4000 trucks and the HW 80 two-sided tipping trailer . Furthermore, the preparatory work for the W50 truck was carried out in Werdau and a pilot series was built under the designation W45 .
Development after the reunification
In 1991 the vehicle factory Werdau GmbH and 1992 the vehicle factory Olbernhau GmbH were spun off from the VEB motor vehicle factory "Ernst Grube" Werdau .
As part of the reunification of Germany , the company was renamed Fahrzeugwerk Werdau GmbH on July 10, 1990 and sold to Kögel Fahrzeugwerke AG Ulm . Until their bankruptcy in 2004, the company continued under the name of Kögel Werdau GmbH & Co. Fahrzeugwerk . In the insolvency process, the Werdau location was removed from the bankruptcy estate as part of a management buy-out and has since been operating under the name SAXAS Nutzfahrzeuge Werdau AG .
