The Waitangi River is a river in Far North District in the region Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .

It flows east from its source near the north coast of Lake Omapere and flows into the Bay of Islands about 28 km near Waitangi . It drains an approximately 308 km² area between Kaikohe , the area south of Kerikeri and north of Moerewa . The tributary Waiaruhe River takes in the runoff of the Ngawha Geothermal Field at Kaikohe.

About 2.5 km west of its mouth are the approximately 5 m high Haruru Falls . Excursion boats go up the river from Paihia to the waterfall.

Road bridges cross it at the mouth, above the Haruru Falls and at its intersection with the SH10 near Puketona . The SH 11 follows the lower and middle reaches of the river on its south side.
