Wakefield Poole

Walter Wakefield Poole (* 1936 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American dancer and film director .

Life

Poole was born in Florida and trained as a dancer after finishing school. In 1957 he became a member of the Ballets Russes in Monte Carlo as a ballet dancer . In later years he received various jobs as a dancer and rehearsal director at Broadway theaters in New York City . In the 1960s he played as a dancer in the musicals No Strings , The Unsinkable Molly Brown , Tenderloin and Finian's Rainbow . In addition, he was choreographic assistant in the musicals Dear World , George M! , Do I Hear a Waltz? and The Girl Who Came to Supper .

In 1971 he directed Boys in the Sand , his first gay porn film. This and the also very successful film Bijou with Charlon Sing as the actor was followed by the unsuccessful heterosexual soft porno Wakefield Poole's Bible . In the 1970s and 1980s he made other gay porn films as a film director, including with the porn actor Casey Donovan .

Poole was married to the choreographer Nancy Van Rijn from 1964 to 1968 . In 2003 Poole was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the GayVN Awards . On October 28, 2012, he received the first award for his life's work at the Berlin Porn Film Festival .
