history

founding

On the northern edge of Rockel's , on the site of the old upper granite quarry, the former party site that was created as Thingplace had been designed in accordance with the purpose of gathering large stage. The planned costs were 320,000 Reichsmarks including the construction of the access roads and a parking lot. The Reichsstatthalter Martin Mutschmann broke ground on March 21, 1933 in the presence of thousands of spectators. The city of Schwarzenberg and the voluntary Reich Labor Service were responsible for the work . 3,000 cubic meters of earth and 22,000 cubic meters of rock had to be moved. Four years later, on June 26, 1938, the facility was inaugurated as the Erzgebirge border area . The structure with 174 steps was a total of 30 meters high. During this time, a community of celebration venues existed between the venues of the cities of Borna , Kamenz and Schwarzenberg to operate the venues.

post war period

In 1950 the name was changed to the large celebration site Wilhelm Pieck , who himself was present in Schwarzenberg to give the name on September 10th. The occasion was a rally on the day of remembrance of the victims of fascism with allegedly 50,000 workers from the entire Ore Mountains. In the early 1950s, several major events with ensembles of the GDR armed forces as well as the Soviet and Polish armies took place in the celebration site. Most of the visitors were Bismut friends who were driven to these official cultural events from all over the area. The Schwarzenberg local editorial team of Volksstimme organized a first press event in 1955 in the Gasthaus zur Sonne. This was the prelude to a first press festival in August 1955 in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt . In 1958 there was a 1st day of the press at the Wilhelm Pieck celebration site with 5,000 spectators. One item on the program was the GDR State Folk Art Ensemble. The completely independent press events of the local editorial office in Schwarzenberg then turned into an advance event on the Wednesday before the press festival weekend in Zwickau and Karl-Marx-Stadt with a program of the concert and guest performance management.

Until 1989, GDR entertainers met every year in Schwarzenberg. For the rest of the year, cultural events were rare. With various artists from the GDR and the socialist states, attempts were made in the 1970s and 1980s to fill the party with life. Even concerts with bands from western countries were held. In 1988 the celebrations for the centenary of the Gnadau community association took place with 20,000 visitors, including guests from all over the world.

After the turn

After the political turnaround in 1989/1990 , the Schwarzenberg Waldbühne began to perform under market conditions in the summer of 1991. The city councils of Schwarzenberg decided in their session on May 26, 1993 to introduce the name Waldbühne Schwarzenberg as a binding designation. The name is derived from the natural location of the stage and thus the facility bears the same name as the Waldbühne in Berlin, which was created according to similar plans. On September 22, 1996, numerous well-known artists met on the Waldbühne for the 1732nd episode of the Schlagerrevue . That was a gala event entitled "There's only one time" on the occasion of Heinz Quermann's 75th birthday on February 10th of the same year, which was produced as a coproduction with MDR television, which broadcast the entire event live. Oldie nights and festivals made the stage known again and drew guests to Schwarzenberg. Radio stations and concert promoters contributed to this. The broadcaster Radio PSR showed particular commitment, holding birthday parties and summer nights with international stars and bands for several years.

With the concerts of artists such as Peter Maffay, Joe Cocker and Herbert Grönemeyer, the Schwarzenberger Waldbühne also became interesting for organizers from the international concert industry. Up to and including 1996, the stage was rented by the owner to various organizers for each event. From 1997 an exclusive operator contract was signed with concert concept Veranstaltungs GmbH Berlin, which also operated the Berlin Waldbühne. New marketing opportunities developed when they tried their hand at a mega-cinema film series taken over from the Berlin stage in 1996 .

present

With the later establishment of the operating company Waldbühne Schwarzenberg together with Semmel Concerts Bayreuth, an organizer who has also played the Schwarzenberg Waldbühne as an event location in recent years, a wide range of events should enrich the stage. The concerts with Joe Cocker, again Herbert Grönemeyer, Andre Rieu and Wolfgang Petry were the highlights. The entire area was gradually reconstructed in several construction phases. Funding was provided by the Free State of Saxony. In the nearby natural theater, the construction of a stage building, which serves as a backstage area for the forest stage, was realized. Modern spectator toilets and a separate transformer station with emergency power supply and emergency lighting were set up. The surrounding area of the amusement park Rockelmann was renovated and upgraded.

For the marketing of the Waldbühne there was an operator and marketing partnership with EmiR Entertainment GmbH in Leipzig from 2005 to 2007. In addition to the joint event acquisition, a basic advertising concept for the Waldbühne Schwarzenberg was created. The SHOW concept agency, which comes from the region, is currently responsible for marketing the Waldbühne. The oldie nights and events with Howard Carpendale succeeded in building on the success of the 1990s. In 2010 the Waldbühne was sold out with the R.SA -Oldie-Nacht and the summer festival was also revived.

In 2015, concerts by Peter Maffay and David Garrett took place next to the sold out RSA Oldie Night.
