The Waldbach is a 8.1 km long orographic left tributary of the Röhr in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

geography

The stream rises on the northwest side of the Homert in the Fretterwald at an altitude of about 549  m above sea level. NN . The spring is located about 800 m southwest of Röhrenspring and the Röhrquelle . From its source, the stream flows mainly in northerly directions. Below Gehren the Laurenziusbach flows to the left and a little later the snow basin. His further path leads him through Endorferhütte , where he still takes the Bütbach on the right, on to Endorf . Before Endorf the Mühlscheid Bach flows on the right . After the Waldbach Endorf has flowed through it flows at 308  m above sea level. NN on the left side in the tube.

The forest brook overcomes a height difference of 241 m on its 8.1 km long path, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 29.6 ‰. It drains a 15.238 km² catchment area via Röhr, Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea .

nature and environment

Outside of the two localities, the stream flows very naturally. At the hamlet of Endorfer Hütte, the banks of the Waldbach were slightly affected. Only in the localities of Endorf has the Waldbach been heavily changed by man. The river flows here partly like a channel, with the banks partly strongly fortified. There is no drinking water production from the forest stream.

For the management plan for the Water Framework Directive of the EU and the forest stream in order of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia (MUNLV) was investigated. More detailed investigations were only carried out from the Endorf location. Up to Endorf the brook was only examined to a limited extent. The forest stream was classified as natural up to Endorf and as significantly changed from Endorf onwards.

With regard to the pollution of the Waldbach with nitrate , metals and other substances that may pollute the water, it was classified as good to very good. The chemical condition was rated as good.

The following ratings only relate to the course of the Waldbach from Endorf. The general degradation was rated as moderate. The saprobia were rated as good. For animals and plants, these classifications were made, for macrozoobenthos (small organisms living on the bottom of the water such as crabs, mussels, snails, insect larvae) as moderate, for macrophytes (aquatic plants visible to the naked eye that live under and on the surface of the water, including candelabrum algae , Mosses and ferns as well as seed plants such as spawning herbs) and phytobenthos (plants living on the water floor, mainly algae) as well. The fish fauna was not examined. Because of the construction in the local areas, the ecological condition and the potential for improvement were only classified as moderate.

So far, dipper and gray wagtail have been identified as breeding birds at the forest stream . The gray heron and black stork feed on. The muskrat has been around the river for years.
