Waldmühlbach is a district of the community Billigheim in the north of Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Waldmühlbach is the easternmost part of the community of Billigheim and lies between Billigheim and Roigheim .

history

The first documentary mention of Waldmühlbach comes from the year 1108. The provost of the Würzburg Neumünsterstift transferred his property in Waldmühlbach to the Comburg monastery . Waldmühlbach developed around a single courtyard. 1305 sold the Waldmühlbach monastery to the Julianenstift in Mosbach . In 1358 Waldmühlbach came to Kurmainz and has since been part of the Allfeld winery .

In the Thirty Years War , the Waldmühlbach district was also largely devastated. Around 1700, the headquarters of the winery moved from Allfeld to Billigheim. Kurmainz was sovereign. The central sovereignty in the place, however, lay with the Duchy of Württemberg . Waldmühlbach belonged to the Zent Möckmühl .

In 1803, in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the County of Leiningen-Billigheim was formed from the cheap home of the Electorate of Mainz . The county came to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806 . However, the count kept as Standesherr some privileges. Up until 1830 the peasants were liable to the civil servant and until the revolution of 1848/1849 also taxable.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the historically shaped local structures were lost. In the Grand Duchy of Baden, open spaces developed and Waldmühlbach became a self-governing municipality.

In 1952 the place was completely connected to a public water supply.

On December 31, 1973, Waldmühlbach was incorporated into the community of Billigheim.

Religions

Due to the long affiliation to Kurmainz, Waldmühlbach is largely Catholic . Today 70% of the population are Catholic and 15% Protestant . There is a Catholic parish on site. Katzental has been a branch municipality since the middle of the 17th century . The parish is now part of the pastoral care unit Billigheim-Schefflenz.

Attractions

The Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus in the center of the village was built in 1886 according to plans by Ludwig Maier as a three-aisled basilica in the style of historicism with echoes of Gothic and Romanesque. The school and town hall opposite the church dates from 1837. It was the town's schoolhouse until 1965. Until 1881, the town hall was also located in the building.
