Waldo Salt: A Screenwriter's Journey is an American documentary directed by Eugene Corr and Robert Hillmann from 1990. It is about the life of the screenwriter Waldo Salt .

The film is about the life of screenwriter Waldo Salt, who was blacklisted in Hollywood in the 1950s , but won an Oscar in the 1970s for his scripts for Asphalt Cowboy and Coming Home . The film consists of both archive footage from Salt's films, especially Asphalt Cowboy, and interviews with actors and friends such as Dustin Hoffman , Robert Redford , Jon Voight and John Schlesinger, as well as his daughter Jennifer Salt .

The film is part of the PBS series American Masters and was first shown at the 1990 Sundance Film Festival .

The film was at the Oscar ceremony in 1991 as Best Documentary nomination.

In 2007, Robert Hillmann made over 300 original documents from Waldo Salt's oeuvre, including film and audio recordings, which found their way into the documentation, available to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which now manages the material.
