The Waldstadion Trier is a football stadium with an athletics facility located in the Weißhauswald in the West / Pallien district of the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Trier .

history

It was opened on September 3, 1922 under the name Weißhausstadion and was the home ground of SV Trier 05 until 1930 . After this time it was used by the Trier football club VfL Trier . In 1937, the plant was temporarily after the NSKK - Reichsleiter Adolf Hühnlein named and in 1946 changed back to its original name. After the Post-Sportverein Trier extensively renovated the stadium from 1957 to 1959, it was given the new name Waldstadion of the Post-SV Trier for its inauguration on May 17, 1959, and from then on it was mainly used for athletics .

From the mid- 1980s to 2000, rugby and American football were played in the Waldstadion . The rugby team of FSV Trier-Tarforst has been training here since the 2006 season and also plays its home games there. The grass pitch is also used by the JSG Pallien for youth games and the athletics department of the PST Trier . In addition, the hard court next to the stadium served as the home ground of the regional soccer division SG Pallien / Post Trier .

Today's Waldstadion is a listed building . The old walls and standing beams on the former stands are still preserved. The cabin of the stadium announcer is also part of the history of the Waldstadion, it was nevertheless demolished. The former training ground of SV Eintracht Trier 05 is right next to it; you can still see today that there was once a sports field there. This space is now used by a forest kindergarten .

During the time it was used by VfL Trier , the club built another training ground behind what was then the tennis court, which is now used as a parking area. The stadium and the hard court are still maintained today by the city of Trier and the clubs using it. With the exception of the changing rooms and a floodlight system on the hard court in the Trier Waldstadion, there are no modern facilities.
