Valentin Yegorowitsch Seliwanow ( Russian Валентин Егорович Селиванов ; born March 17, 1936 in the village of Stanowaja , Stanovlyansk Raion , Lipetsk Oblast ) is a Russian admiral a. D. and former Chief of Staff of the Russian Naval Fleet .

Life

Selivanov graduated from the 6th Air Force Special School in Voronezh in 1954 . From September 1955 to June 1958 he studied at the officers' college of the naval forces MW Frunze . After graduation, he was used in the Pacific Fleet as the commander of an anti - aircraft battery for the destroyer Wkradtschiwy . From September 1964 to June 1965 he attended higher officer courses in Leningrad , then became the commander of a guard ship and in 1967 commander of the destroyer Wolny of the Pacific Fleet. From September 1969 to June 1971 Selivanov graduated from the Naval War Academy and was then employed as chief of staff of the 26th U-Fighter Brigade of the Baltic Fleet . From August 1973 he worked as commander of the 76th destroyer brigade and from August 1975 he commanded the 12th missile ship division in this same fleet . As Chief of Staff of the 5th Operational Squadron , he served in the Mediterranean region from November 1978. A year later he was promoted to Rear Admiral. From February 1981 he took over command of the 5th Operational Squadron. In November 1984 he was appointed Vice Admiral . From September 1985 to December 1989, Selivanov was Chief of Staff and 1st Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet . By order of the Minister of Defense of the USSR on December 24, 1989, he became the commander of the Leningrad naval base and the commander of the Kronstadt fortress. By order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in February 1991, he was appointed admiral. From September 1992 he took the post of Chief of Staff and 1st Deputy Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy. In December 1996, Selivanov retired.

In 1996 he worked as deputy general director of the Kompas-1 closed company . Seliwanow was a specialist in the field of operational warfare and strategy of the naval war fleet and fleet management. He was in charge of the fleet's weapons equipment and was responsible for drafting normative documents. In 1995 he became a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences (RARAN). He was the author of scientific papers on the problems of ensuring naval readiness for action, the evaluation of the effectiveness and prospects of maritime weapons systems, and conversion organization .
