Valery Dmitriev (born October 10, 1984 ) is a former Kazakh racing cyclist .

Career

Dmitrijew achieved his best result as a junior rider in 1997 when he finished second in the individual time trial at the European Youth Olympic Games .

Dmitrijew began his international career in 2004 with the Kazakh cycling team Capec . In his first season he was third in the Asian championship in road racing and he won a stage in the U23 round trip Giro delle Regioni . He also achieved a second stage place there and was also second on a section of the Ràs Tailteann in Ireland in the same year . The Kazakh was able to achieve all of these placements thanks to his sprint strength. The next year, after a second and a third stage position, he was first in the overall ranking at the Tour of Greece , where he started as a member of a Kazakh national team. The victory in Greece is the greatest achievement in Dmitriev's career.

In 2006 he won a stage in the Tour of Egypt - again for Capec - and took third place in the overall ranking. Before that he had finished second twice in Egypt and showed his time trial qualities with third place in the prologue there and at La Tropicale Amissa Bongo . He also sprinted to second place on the second section of the Tour of Chongming Island in China . After the dissolution of the team at the end of 2006, Dmitrijew was able to place twice on the podium at the Galicia Tour in 2007.

In 2008 Dmitrijew received a contract with the Kazakh Continental Team Ulan . With podium finishes at the Giro del Friuli , the Circuito Montañés and on daily sections of the Vuelta a Navarra , he narrowly missed a victory. In the overall ranking of the Vuelta a Navarra, he was third.

From the 2009 season Dmitrijew was committed to the Kazakh ProTeam Astana in 2009 . Among other things, he was there in 2010 in the Tour Down Under , a race in the highest international category, and was tenth in the first stage. Surprisingly took second place in the mountain classification and.
