The Walhonding River is a 38 km long river in the central eastern US state of Ohio ; it belongs to the river system of the Mississippi River. The drainage route leads over the Muskingum River , Ohio River, and Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico . The catchment area of the Walhonding River is 5,833 km².
The Walhonding River is formed by the confluence of the Mohican and Kokosing Rivers and crosses Coshocton County in an east-southeast direction. In the 1930s, the US Army Corps of Engineers built the Mohawk Dam to counter the risk of flooding. On its further way, the river passes the cities of Nellie and Warsaw, takes in the Killbuck Creek coming from the north and forms the Muskingum River at Coshocton together with the Tuscarawas River . According to the Geographic Names Information System , the river has also been referred to as Walhandink River, White Woman Creek, Whitemans Creek, Wolhonding River, and similar names in its settlement history.
