Walram IV (Limburg)
Walram IV of Limburg (* approx. 1160; † 1226 , buried in Rolduc Abbey ) was Count of Luxembourg since 1214 and Duke of Limburg and Margrave of Arlon from 1221 and Lord of Monschau until 1221 .
Life
He was the second eldest son of Duke Heinrich III. von Limburg and Sophie von Saarbrücken, a daughter of Count Simon I of Saarbrücken . On August 1, 1194, he fought in the Battle of Noville against Count Baldwin V of Hainaut . After his brother Heinrich (IV.) Died in 1214, Walram became the main heir of his father.
Walram took together with his father Heinrich III. participated in the Third Crusade ; they traveled independently of the main army of Emperor Barbarossa and joined Richard the Lionheart's army in the Holy Land . In 1196/97 he and his father rebelled against Emperor Heinrich VI. and took part in the battle of Wassenberg in 1206 . Through his second marriage in 1214 to Countess Ermesinde of Luxembourg ( House of Namur ), Walram IV became Count of Luxembourg (de iure uxoris ) and was thus involved in the inheritance disputes over Luxembourg and Namur. Also in 1214 he took part in the Battle of Bouvines on the Guelph side . In 1217 and 1218 he took part in the Fifth Crusade and fought in the siege of Damiette . After the death of his father Heinrich III. In 1221 Walram became Duke of Limburg and Count of Arlon, at the same time he gave up his rule over Monschau to his eldest son Heinrich .
Walram IV had at least four children from his first marriage to Kunigunde von Monschau , these were:

- Mathilde of Limburg († after 1234), ⚭ Wilhelm III. from Jülich
- Heinrich IV of Limburg († 1247), ⚭ Irmgard von Berg
- Walram II of Monschau († 1242), ⚭ Elisabeth von Bar daughter of Count Theobald I of Bar and Countess Ermesinde II of Luxembourg
Walram IV had at least four children from his second marriage to Ermesinde II of Luxembourg , these were:
- Katherina von Limburg (* 1215; † April 18, 1255), ⚭ Duke Matthew II of Lorraine
- Heinrich V of Luxembourg (* around 1216; † 1281), ⚭ Margarethe von Bar, daughter of Heinrich II. Von Bar
- Margaret of Limburg
- Gerhard von Durbuy (* 1223; † around 1303), ⚭ Mechthild von Kleve , daughter of Dietrich primogenitus von Kleve
