biography

As the younger son of the Count von Bar, he was first given the dominions of Briey and Stenay . In France, through his mother, he belonged to the family of the Counts of Champagne , the House of Blois , who were hostile to the Duchy of Lorraine on a regional level , and to the reign of France on a supraregional level with King Philip Augustus of France , whose cousin he was fought.
