The Walter-Gropius-Gymnasium Selb (short: WGG Selb) is a state high school in Selb and, along with the Luisenburg-Gymnasium in Wunsiedel and the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium in Marktredwitz, one of three high schools in the district of Wunsiedel . It has a scientific and technological branch and a linguistic branch.
history
In 1928 the State Realschule Selb was established at the beginning of the school year 1928/29. Since 1965 the school was called Gymnasium Selb . In the 1957/58 school year, the school was one of the pioneering schools when the five-day week with the non-teaching Saturday was introduced, and from the 1971/72 school year it was also a model school (together with 23 other schools) for the introduction of the college level . The pilot project "European Gymnasium II" has been carried out since the 1999/2000 school year. Since January 1st, 2000 the school has been called Walter-Gropius-Gymnasium, named after the architect and Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius .
activities
In the sixth and seventh grades, ski camps take place in Viehhofen . In addition, every year there is a school camp for the fifth grades so that they can get to know each other even better a few weeks after the start of the school year. Retreats are held for the ninth grade, the tenth grade takes part in a study trip to Hamburg . The final trip leads to Barcelona or Greece ; the Tuscany in 2010 was on offer. In 2014, the first graduation trip led to the Turkish city of Istanbul . The WGG is one of the high schools in Germany with the most trips to school. The school newspaper of the WGG is the exhaust . The school homepage won first prize in the Crossmedia 2006 competition . The astronomy course created a planetary path through Hammerwald.
The Association of Friends of the Walter-Gropius-Gymnasium Selb , which consists of former students, teachers, student parents and sponsors of the Gymnasium, promotes the school and the coexistence at school both ideally (for example with the series of events Selber Gymnasium Talks ) and financially.
