Aigurande is a French commune with 1,428 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of La Châtre and the canton of Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre . The municipality is part of the Marche Berrichonne municipality .
geography
Aigurande is about 26 kilometers southeast of La Châtre , on the border with the neighboring Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . The Bouzanne rises in the western municipality and the Vauvre runs in the eastern municipality .
etymology
The name of the place is derived from the Gallic word "Equoranda", which denotes a river that separated two Gallic tribes , namely the Lemovici and the Biturigen (from the Berry province ).
