Walter Braun (politician, 1913)

Walter Braun (born August 26, 1913 in Mannheim ; † November 27, 1989 ) was a German wholesale merchant and Bavarian senator.

Life

After graduating from high school and a half year of student work, Braun did an apprenticeship in Berlin and in his parents' shop in Nuremberg . In 1938 he came into the possession of a hat and fashion goods wholesaler with a hat factory in Nuremberg. During the Second World War he was used in military service in the Air Force and was a prisoner of war in France. After his release, Braun was involved in the rebuilding of the war-torn company, set up a branch in Munich and resumed hat manufacturing in 1959. In 1957 he became a board member of the regional association of Bavarian wholesale and foreign trade, of which he was president from 1960 until his death. From 1960 he was a member of the executive committee, from 1981 to 1988 Vice-President of the Federal Association of German Wholesalers and Foreign Trade based in Bonn . There he was also a member of the board of the German Industry and Trade Conference . He was also a member of the Presidium of the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce , of which he was Vice President from 1967 to 1971 and of which he was President from 1971 to 1989. He was then honorary president of the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the IFO Institute for Economic Research , the advisory board, the administrative board and the board of directors of the German Canal and Shipping Association Rhine-Main-Danube and held other managerial functions. From 1966 until his death he was a member of the Bavarian Senate .
