Walter Eberhard Steger (born April 8, 1925 in Sebnitz ; † June 6, 2004 in Dresden ) was a German chemist .

Life

Eberhard Steger attended high school in Pirna and, after graduating from high school in 1943, studied chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden . Interrupted by military service in World War II, American captivity and working as new teachers in Sebnitz, he took up the study again in 1949 and in 1955 with a thesis on Raman spectroscopic studies on the structure of tetrametaphosphates doctorate . In 1959 he was at the Technical University Dresden with his habilitation thesis Spectroscopic studies on the binding state to the amido derivatives of phosphoric habilitation and worked afterwards as a lecturer of Inorganic and General Chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden.

In 1962 he became professor with a teaching position for spectroscopy and in 1964 director of the Institute for Special Analytical Chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden . From 1969 to 1990 he worked as a full professor for physical chemistry at the chemistry section of the TU Dresden.

The main focus of Eberhard Steger's scientific activity was in the field of Raman and infrared spectroscopy as well as structural research.

In 1985 Eberhard Steger was accepted as a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .

In 1990 he became adjunct professor at the University of Santiago de Cuba .

Eberhard Steger was co-editor of the journal for physical chemistry from 1972 to 1990 .
