Walter Fellmann (historian)

Walter Fellmann (born March 26, 1931 in Böhmischwald near Gabersdorf ; † 2011 ) was a German historian .

Life

Walter Fellmann was born in the settlement Böhmischwald in Silesia , which belongs to Gabersdorf . In Neurode he attended high school until it was closed in 1944 during the fighting for Breslau. So Fellmann took up a forestry apprenticeship without further ado. In 1946 he and his parents had to leave home. His family settled in Leipzig . There Walter Fellmann was able to continue his apprenticeship at the City Forestry Office and bring it to a conclusion. He joined the NDPD and became an employee of the city administration. After attending the administration school in Großsteinberg , he became mayor of one of the small districts of Leipzig. In 1952 he was elected to the Leipzig District Assembly, where he represented the NDPD until 1954.

In 1953, after completing the Abitur and the special maturity examination, Walter Fellmann began studying history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , graduating in 1957 with a degree in history. His teachers included Walter Markov , Ernst Engelberg , Heinrich Sproemberg and Gerhard Heitz .

After graduating, Walter Fellmann worked for the NDPD daily newspaper Mitteldeutsche Latest Nachrichten as a journalist for three years . In 1960 he went to the Humboldt University in Berlin , on whose behalf he was in charge of a field office for distance learning for history students in Leipzig from 1962 to 1968. During this time he successfully defended his dissertation in 1963. In 1969 he received his habilitation.

Walter Fellmann had been working as a freelance scientist since 1968 and presented numerous publications on historical topics, including works primarily on recent political history and biographies. He lived in Taucha near Leipzig.
