Walter Hayes

Walter Leopold Arthur Hayes (born April 12, 1924 in Harrow , Middlesex , † December 26, 2000 ) was a British journalist and public relations director for Ford . He was a key figure in the development of Ford's Formula 1 program as he was instrumental in the development of the Cosworth DFV and the recruitment of Jackie Stewart . He also initiated the formation of the Premier Automotive Group with the acquisitions of the British car brands Jaguar and Aston Martin .

Walter Leopold Arthur Hayes was born in Harrow, Middlesex, the son of a printer . Thanks to a scholarship, Hayes was able to attend the Hampton School and served in the Royal Air Force . After the Second World War he began to work as a journalist and worked, among other things, as Associate Editor of the Daily Mail . In 1962 he moved to Ford UK as head of public relations. There he drove forward racing activities.

In May 1987, when asked what they should do today , he suggested Henry Ford II take over Aston Martin for fun. Ford liked the suggestion and about one later Ford joined Aston Martin. As Hayes retired at Ford in 1989, he was at the same time the Board appointed by Aston Martin. During his 5 years at Aston Martin, he successfully launched the DB7 model , leading Aston Martin out of the crisis.

In December 2000, Hayes finally died after a brief illness at the age of 76.
