Walter Heinicke

Walter Heinicke (born June 28, 1912 in Zella St. Blasii ; † October 22, 2005 in Berlin ) was a German canoeist and politician ( SED ). In 1958 he was a brief minister and from 1958 to 1961 chairman of the committee for work and wages as well as president of the German Canoe Sports Association (DKSV) of the GDR .

Life

Heinicke, the son of a worker, learned the profession of printer after attending primary school from 1926 to 1930 . He then worked in the profession. From 1926 to 1933 he was a member of the Book Printers Association and from 1927 to 1928 of the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ), from which he was expelled. From July 1934 to December 1934 he did voluntary labor service and from 1934 to 1940 he was a member of the German Labor Front (DAF). From August 1940 he was a member of the Wehrmacht and was awarded the EK II and the KVK II during the Second World War . In September 1944 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets as a corporal . In May 1946 he took part in a 14-day anti- fascist course and from June 1947 to March 1948 attended the anti-fascist school in the Soviet Union. On April 1, 1948, he was released from captivity and went to the Soviet occupation zone .

In 1948 Heinicke joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB), the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF) and the German Sports Committee , later the DTSB . In May 1948 he attended the state trade union school in Werlsee and became an employee of the FDGB district executive in East Berlin . After attending the party college "Karl Marx" from 1950 to 1951, he headed the wages and tariffs department of the FDGB district board for two years, and finally became a member of the secretariat and head of the organization department of the FDGB district board in Berlin.

On April 22, 1954, he was appointed deputy minister for labor for the areas of labor, labor productivity and wages. When the State Planning Commission (SPK) was reconstituted on February 19, 1958, as a member of the SPK, he was assigned the labor, university and technical college cadre department. In May 1958 he was finally appointed to succeed Friedrich Macher as chairman of the committee for work and wages and a member of the GDR's Council of Ministers . On May 28, 1958, the People's Chamber gave him confidence. When the new government was constituted on December 8, 1958, he resigned as a member of the Council of Ministers, but remained chairman of the Committee for Labor and Wages until September 1961.

Heinicke, a successful canoeist in his youth, who was president of the canoe section of the GDR at the beginning of the 1950s, was elected president on April 19, 1958 when the German Canoe Sports Association (DKSV) was founded within the DTSB. He held this position until 1961. He was then Vice President of the DKSV until 1989. On October 27, 1982 he was awarded the Badge of Honor for Physical Culture and Sport of the German Democratic Republic .

Heinicke last lived in Berlin-Adlershof . He died at the age of 93.
