Walter Hilfiker

Walter Hilfiker (born August 28, 1897 in Safenwil , † January 4, 1945 in Frenkendorf ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Hilfiker graduated from the canton school in Aarau and then completed a commercial apprenticeship. He was a merchant in Olten . From 1930 he lived in Frenkendorf .

From 1920 to 1931 Hilfiker was Baselbieter SP district administrator ; 1930/1931 District President. From 1931 to 1945 he was a member of the government and from 1943 to 1945 he was a member of the National Council. In 1936 he was President of the Swiss Education Directors Conference and from 1943 to 1945 party president of the SP Basel-Landschaft.

As director of education, Hilfiker was responsible, among other things, for unemployment welfare and job creation campaigns in the crisis years. He was particularly involved in the areas of vocational training and advice .
