Walter Issleib

Walter Issleib (born April 11, 1923 in Eisenach ) is a former German diplomat . From 1978 to 1980 he was the GDR's ambassador to the Yemeni Arab Republic .

Life

Issleib, the son of a worker, attended high school, passed the Abitur and worked as a carer in Eisenach. He joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party on September 1, 1941 .

After 1945 he worked as a judicial officer in the judicial service and as a consultant in the Interior Ministry of the State of Thuringia . He became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and studied economics at the German Academy for Political Science and Law until 1954, with a degree in economics.

Until 1960 he held responsible functions in the council of the district of Erfurt , was temporarily deputy chairman of the council of the district. From 1961 to 1969 he acted as the deputy or first deputy of the Lord Mayor of Erfurt .

In 1969 Issleib took up his work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From October 1970 he was head of the GDR trade agency in the state of Kuwait with the rank of legation councilor and from December 1970 to December 1972 head of the Consulate General in Kuwait. From May 1978 to February 1980 he was the GDR's ambassador to the Yemeni Arab Republic (successor to Lothar Eichelkraut ). He then worked as a political employee in the MfAA.

Issleib is married and has two children.
