Walter Josef Meyer

Walter Josef Meyer (born June 8, 1938 in Bardenberg ; † August 16, 2000 in Herzogenrath ) was district administrator for the Aachen district from 1989 to 1994 .

Walter Meyer's political career began as the trade union secretary of ÖTV . In September 1979 he moved into the district assembly of the Aachen district for the first time as a member of the SPD . In 1989 he was elected district administrator and succeeded Hans Günter Bömeke . Both in 1994 and 1999 he failed in a new candidacy. In 1994, an alliance of the CDU and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen elected Carl Meulenbergh (CDU) as district administrator. In 1999 he was elected district administrator by the population in the first direct election.

Until his death, Walter Meyer was a volunteer in numerous associations, so u. a. as chairman of the German Red Cross (DRK) in the Aachen district. In the SPD district of Aachen, Walter Meyer held the position of deputy sub-district chairman and was thus one of two deputies of the MEP Martin Schulz .

In August 2000 Walter Meyer died of heart failure. His grave is in Herzogenrath- Niederbardenberg .
