Walter Kempley

Walter V. Kempley Jr. (born September 15, 1926 in Fort Dodge , Iowa , † August 11, 2001 in Sarasota , Florida ) was an American writer and screenwriter .

Life

Walter V. Kempley Jr. began his career as a farm and sports reporter for a small local newspaper in Iowa . After a brief stop at the Dallas Post , he moved to New York City , where he worked for NBC . There he met the presenter Jack Paar , who convinced him to work as a writer for his The Tonight Show . He left the show in 1961 and returned again from 1967 to 1971, with Johnny Carson hosting it from 1962. He also later wrote for The Jackie Gleason Show , The Merv Griffin Show , McHale's Navy and theDick Van Dyke Show . In 1982 his contract with Paramount ended, so that he turned to Europe and in Germany, among other things, for rest gently, Bruno , Didi - The double , bang! You are dead! and showed Luke and Son responsible. He continued to write his scripts in English so that they had to be translated for the German production. In 1990 he returned to the USA and from then on lived in Sarasota , Florida .

Walter Kempley died on August 11, 2001 as a result of his Alzheimer's disease . He left a wife, three daughters, a son and four grandchildren.
