Walter Müller

Walter Müller (born December 25, 1948 in Zurich ; † July 10, 2013 in Le Beausset Vieux ) was a Swiss mountaineer and mountain guide and a pioneer of free climbing in Switzerland.

Life

Walter Müller completed an apprenticeship as a civil engineering draftsman and then studied experimental physics . As a teenager, he began systematic climbing training on the Nagelfluhfelsen on his native Uetliberg and then undertook the most difficult climbing routes and first ascents in the Alps. He is considered one of the pioneers of free climbing in Switzerland.

For over 40 years, Walter Müller worked as a qualified mountain guide , he was an expert in alpine equipment and rescue technology, and was also active as a windsurfer and white water rider . As the long-time rescue chief of the Alpina mountaineering group , he wrote textbooks on alpine rescue technology, technology and safety in summer and winter mountaineering and sport climbing .

His dog Pazzolino accompanied him on many mountain climbs in summer and winter. a. on the Mont Blanc , the Tödi and the Piz Palü . He spent the last years of his life in Le Bausset Vieux in Provence .

  • September 9, 1973 Stäfelstock north face ( Brunnital , Urner Alps ). With Kurt Grüter and Erwin Saxer.
  • July 1974 Wyss Stöckli east wall, (Brunnital). With Kurt Grüter.
  • August 24, 1974 Eiger southeast face, direct route. With Karl Moser.
