Walter Maier-Kößler
Walter Maier-Kößler (born July 6, 1914 in Kornwestheim , † July 14, 1994 in Baden-Baden ) was a German visual artist and graphic artist.
Life
After graduating from high school and working in industry for two years, Walter Maier-Kößler first completed a degree in education in Esslingen, which was followed by studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1937 to 1945 , interrupted by labor, military service, military service and imprisonment. From 1946 to 1949 he continued his studies in Stuttgart with Professors Fritz von Graevenitz , Hermann Sohn , Ulfert Janssen , Hermann Mayrhofer and Erich Feyerabend ; He also studied art history , history , geography and geology at the Technical University of Stuttgart and at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .
From 1949 to 1971 Maier-Kößler was an art teacher at various grammar schools in Baden-Württemberg, then until 1994 as a freelance artist in Baden-Baden. Walter Maier-Kößler was a member of the Association of Visual Artists in Baden-Württemberg, the Heilbronn Artists' Association, the Heilbronn Art Association and the Württemberg Art Association .

Maier-Kößler's work includes oil paintings , watercolors , pastels , drawings , lithographs and various experimental prints . His paintings deal with impressions of the landscape, groups of figures and abstract compositions. His oil paintings, watercolors and pastels are influenced by impressionism , post-impressionism and cubism . His late graphic work deals with existential themes, in particular the threat to the individual in the anonymity of modern society and impermanence.
Many of his works were purchased by the city of Heilbronn and the district of Heilbronn. A selection of his pictures are in the possession of the Städtische Museen Heilbronn (nine oil paintings, five pastels, twenty graphics), numerous others are privately owned. A mural (composition of figures, construction relief in concrete, approx. 2 × 3 m) adorns a facade of the Johann Sebastian Bach Gymnasium in Mannheim, another (composition of figures, made of metal, approx. 1.5 × 3 m) the Manfred- Kyber elementary school in Löwenstein, which also has a gallery with graphics by Maier-Kößler on Manfred Kyber's work .
All of the graphics shown here are in the collection of the Heilbronn Municipal Museums. The oil painting is privately owned.
