Walter Paska

Wolodymyr Walter Paska (born November 29, 1923 in Elizabeth , New Jersey , USA; † August 16, 2008 in Plymouth Meeting , Pennsylvania , USA) was auxiliary bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Philadelphia , USA, united with Rome .

Life

Walter Paska studied Catholic theology and philosophy at St. Basil College in Stamford, CO, and St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, MD. On June 2, 1947, he was ordained a priest for the Philadelphia Archeparch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Philadelphia . In 1952 he completed a master's degree in medieval English literature from Fordham University . He was active as a pastor in various parishes. In 1963 Pope Paul VI appointed him . to the monsignor . From 1969 to 1971 he was the first Chancellor and Vicar General of the Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago. The diocese includes Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and all states west of the Mississippi River. He also taught at St. Basil College in Stamford, CO, and St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, MD, received his doctorate in Canon Law in 1975 and was Professor of Canon Law from 1975 to 1978 . From 1979 to 1984 he was the rector of St. Josaphat Seminary in Washington, DC. From 1992 to 2001 he was Rector of the Immaculate Conception at Philadelphia Cathedral. He was the appointed vicar and executive director of the Philadelphia Archepark from 1975 to 2006.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tigillava in 1992 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Philadelphia Archepark. The episcopal ordination donated him on March 19, 1992 Archbishop Stephen Sulyk , the metropolitan of the Archeparchy of Philadelphia; Co- consecrators were Basil Harry Losten , Bishop of the Eparchy of Stamford, and Innocent Hilarion Lotocky OSBM , Bishop of the Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago.

On November 29, 2000, Pope John Paul II granted his age-related resignation.
