Walter Pembaur

Walter Pembaur (born September 21, 1886 in Innsbruck , † September 23, 1948 ibid) was an Austrian publicist and politician .

Youth and education

Walter Pembaur was the youngest son of the composer Josef Pembaur the Elder. Ä. and brother of Josef and Karl Maria Pembaur . After graduating from high school , Walter Pembaur enrolled at the University of Innsbruck in 1904 and studied philosophy until 1909 . For financial reasons he switched to law studies and received his doctorate in both rights in 1914 . He began a career as a lawyer.

After the outbreak of World War I , he published a volume of war songs, the proceeds of which he dedicated to the Red Cross . In February 1915 he volunteered for the military and fought in Russia , Tyrol and the Isonzo . He received several awards, he received the Signum Laudis , the bronze and silver medal of bravery and the Kaiser Karl Troop Cross . During an illness in 1917 he was able to continue his philosophy studies and in February 1918 he submitted his dissertation on " Malebranches Occasionalism and its Relationship to Indeterminism ".

Career

In 1919 Walter Pembaur took over duties in the Tyrolean Chamber of Artists . In the same year he was elected to the board of the Innsbrucker Liedertafel . He held this position until 1923. From 1920 at the latest he was also chairman of the Tyrolean Singing Association . From 1920 to 1922 Pembaur was editor for the magazine "Alpenland".

For the election of the Constituent National Assembly on February 16, 1919, Pembaur ran for the German Freedom Party , but without success. On June 15, 1919, Pembaur was elected to the Innsbruck municipal council; he remained a local councilor until 1933 and later a city councilor. After his party had become part of the Greater German People's Party (GDVP), Pembaur ran for the Tyrolean state election on May 22, 1921 and became a member of the Tyrolean state parliament . He represented the GDVP in the state parliament until 1925. From 1922 to 1924 he was the first secretary in the Innsbruck Chamber of Commerce.

From May 27, 1929 to 1935, Pembaur was Vice Mayor of Innsbruck.

On June 17, 1937, he was appointed head of the so-called “People's Political Unit” of the Fatherland Front . As such, he was supposed to win over the “emphatically national” Austrians to work on the Fatherland Front and build up the national organizations of the department. Immediately after the “Anschluss” of Austria on March 13, 1938, Pembaur was entrusted with the management of the reparation office in order to “organize the reparation for damage suffered by the National Socialists”.

In 1941 Pembaur became a member of the NSDAP and moved to Munich . In 1943 he returned to Innsbruck.

Private

Walter Pembaur married Herta Leiter on December 29, 1920.
