Walter Stimpel

Walter Stimpel (born November 29, 1917 in Oelsen ; † January 13, 2008 in Karlsruhe ) was an officer in the Wehrmacht Air Force and, as a lawyer, a long-time judge at the Federal Court of Justice . From 1978 to 1985 he was its vice-president.

Life

Walter Stimpel joined the Wehrmacht Air Force on April 1, 1936 and was promoted to lieutenant on January 1, 1938 . On July 1, 1938, he moved to Sturzkampfgeschwader 165, which was renamed Sturzkampfgeschwader 77 on May 1, 1939 . There he was promoted to first lieutenant on April 1, 1940. With this squadron he took part in the attack on Poland , the campaign in the west , the Battle of Britain and the attack on the Soviet Union . On November 13, 1941, he was awarded the German Cross in Gold . In February 1942 he took over the 6th squadron of the squadron as squadron captain and on June 1, 1942 he was promoted to captain. On June 7, 1942, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross , before moving to an air war school in November 1942. From July 1, 1943, he took over duties in the staff of the Air Force Command Southeast in the Balkans, where he was promoted to major on May 1, 1944. On December 6, 1944, he became an Air Force liaison officer on the staff of the Reichsführer SS , where he saw the end of the war.

After the war he was initially a councilor at the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court and from 1961 head of the State Judicial Examination Office in Hanover. In 1965 he was appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice. From 1971 until his retirement in 1985 he was chairman of the corporate law senate of the Federal Court of Justice . Between 1978 and 1985 he was Vice President of the Federal Court of Justice.

From 1981 Walter Stimpel was on the editorial board of the Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsrecht (ZIP). In 1989 Walter Stimpel received an honorary professorship at the University of Heidelberg .

He was the father of the medical doctor Michael Stimpel .
