Walter Tormin

Walter Tormin (* 31 August 1923 in Lübeck ; † 4. December 2011 in Hamburg ) was a German politician of the SPD in Hamburg, pollsters and publicist .

Life

Tormin initially worked as a teacher and later became head of the State Center for Political Education Hamburg and the Office for Vocational and Continuing Education in the Authority for School, Youth and Vocational Training .

As a journalist and election researcher, Walter Tormin took part in various projects. These were particularly related to Hamburg, but studies beyond the boundaries of the Hanseatic city were also his interest. In terms of time, Dr. Walter Tormin especially with the Weimar Republic , the Third Reich and the years after 1945.

For the book Freedom and Democracy published in 2003 , a documentary about persecuted social democrats in Hamburg during the Nazi era , he compiled a list of more than 1500 names with biographical information.

Tormin was a member of the Hamburg parliament from 1966 to 1976 as a member of the SPD.
