Walter von Schönberg

Walter von Schönberg (born August 13, 1861 in Naumburg (Saale) , † December 23, 1926 in Bückeburg ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general and legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Life

He came from the Saxon noble family von Schönberg and was the second eldest son of the district judge Wolf von Schönberg on Kreipitzsch . In 1887 he married Countess Magda zu Rantzau in Weimar . From this marriage two sons were born, in the First World War fell.

From December 23, 1917 to March 19, 1919 Schönberg was commander of the 33rd Division . In April 1918 he took part in the battles near Montdidier and Noyon , and on June 27th, his large unit supported the 1st Guard Division under Prince Eitel Friedrich von Prussia in storming the Chemin des Dames . The 33rd Division remained a reserve of the OHL and carried out defensive battles between Marne and Oise in July 1918 . In September Schönberg's division was deployed to the Champagne region , and at the end of the war in November 1918 still on the Meuse front.
