Wanda Szyksznian (born April 26, 1948 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian graphic designer and university professor.

Life

Szyksznian is the daughter of a Pole who came to Hungary as a soldier in 1939 and got married there. She wanted to become a poster designer when she was 13 to 14 years old. When the school was given the task of designing a poster for Women's Day and she successfully mastered it, her desire was reinforced. She gave up playing the piano , which she had played for several years, in order to concentrate fully on her goal. After attending the technical college, she studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts with Aurél Bernáth and György Konecsni, where she graduated in graphics . In 1968 she first designed a poster for a concert by the Hungarian beat group Illés , which took place in the Egyetemi Színpad Theater in Budapest's fifth district . It came to a longer collaboration in which she designed various record sleeves for this group, including for the well-known album Illések és pofonok . She also designed record sleeves for other Hungarian musicians such as Zsuzsa Koncz , Halász Judit, János Bródy or the jazz trio Vukán - Berkes - Kőszegi . She also illustrated books and designed posters for films such as Dögkeselyű , Derszu Uzala , Herkulesfürdői emlék and for the rock opera István, a király . She also worked as a commercial artist for various companies such as Hungarian MOKÉP ( Mozgókép-forgalmazási Vállalat ) MKKE ( Magyar Könyvkiadók és Könyvterjesztők Egyesülése ), Tungsram , the textbook publisher Tankönyvkiadó or the pharmaceutical company Kőbányai Gyógyszerárugyár . Since 2000 she has been teaching at the university in Budapest.
