The walker W 245 is a passenger car of the upper mid-range of the brand walkers with 2.3-liter six-cylinder engine and rear wheel drive .
history
The Auto Union presented him in 1935 as a larger displacement version of the W 240 before. The W 245 was on the market as a four-door sedan (4 windows) and as a four-seater touring car .
The Wanderer W 250 with the same technology, but 15 cm more wheelbase (3.15 m), was offered in parallel as a four-door sedan (6 windows), two-door convertible (4 windows) and six- seater Pullman sedan . The bodies of the limousines built in the Auto-Union plant in Siegmar near Chemnitz came from Reutter in Stuttgart, while the W-250 chassis delivered from Siegmar were fitted with the convertible body at Glasses in Dresden.
The by Ferdinand Porsche 1931 for hikers W 20 constructed above, controlled in-line engine with 2-liter capacity was in walker 245 W / W increased to 2.3 liters and 250 made 50 horsepower at 3300 min -1 . The rear wheels were driven via a four-speed gearbox with a center shift lever. The chassis came from the W 240 with a U-profile low frame, front rigid axle and torsion bar suspension; likewise the rear "swing axle" ( pendulum axle ) with transverse spring. The hydraulically operated "oil pressure brake" (license Lockheed ) was supplied by ATE .
In 1936 the W 245 was renamed the Wanderer W 45 and the W 250 was renamed the Wanderer W 50 . The front rigid axle with torsion bar suspension was replaced by a double wishbone construction with transverse springs; engine performance both models rose to 55 horsepower at 3800 min -1 .
Also in 1936 a Wanderer Spezial W 51 appeared with the mechanics of the W 50, but with a new body as a four-door sedan with 6 windows and a two-door convertible with 4 windows.
From 1937 the W-45 touring car and the W-50 Pullman sedan were discontinued, instead the W 45 was available as a four-seater convertible with two windows. The W 45 / W 50 were replaced in 1938 by the W 23 / W 26 models with newly designed side-controlled 2.65-liter six-cylinder engines, with the W 23 having the simpler " floating axle " at the rear instead of the "swinging axle" (pendulum axle). Compared to their predecessors with a 12-volt system, the W 23 / W 26 (like the smaller four-cylinder model W 24 ) were equipped with 6-volt electrical systems.
Together with the models W 21, W 235 and W 35 and the models W 22, W 240 and W 40 , 29,111 units were built. Around 800 cars were built from the Spezial W 51 model.
