Christian Höpfner

Christian Höpfner (born March 5, 1939 in Burgstall , Altmark , † December 4, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor , medalist , graphic artist and university lecturer.

Live and act

From 1958 to 1964 he studied at the Berlin College of Fine Arts (with Richard Scheibe ). Höpfner finished his studies as Scheibe's master class student. From 1964 to 1969 he worked as a laborer and freelance sculptor in Berlin.

In 1969 he became Waldemar Grzimek's assistant at the chair for sculptural design in the architecture department at the Technical University of Darmstadt , and in 1972 he became a lecturer in the architecture department of the TH Darmstadt. In 1977 he was appointed to a chair for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg .

He is a member of several artists' associations: Darmstädter Sezession , Künstlergilde Esslingen , Schadowgesellschaft Berlin , Künstlerbund Schwabach , founding member and long-time board member of the Künstleronderbund in Germany , German Society for Medal Art , as well as the group of Berlin Medalists.

His complete oeuvre includes the classic nude figure, the torso and the portrait , mostly modeled in bronze for casting. Small-format plastic studies, drawings and graphics complete the work. In 1976 he worked on sculptures by Gerhard Marcks .

Höpfner designed several motifs for 10 euro silver commemorative coins .

Höpfner lived and worked in Berlin and Nuremberg.

Christian Höpfner died on December 4, 2014 at the age of 75.
