history

Warmsdorf was first mentioned as Warmeresthorpe 1018. A moated castle on the Wipper already existed in 1268. In the course of an inheritance division in 1546, the castles Warmsdorf , Plötzkau , Harzgerode and Güntersberge fell to the Protestant Prince Georg III. from Anhalt-Dessau to. The founding of the first Lutheran parish in the town goes back to him in the 16th century. In 1547 he made Warmsdorf Castle his residence. The castle complex and the mansions were rebuilt during this time. In the period up to 1552 was under George III. Today's Warmsdorf Castle was built. During the Dessau plague epidemic in 1552, Prince Joachim moved the Anhalt-Dessau royal court here.

Warmsdorf and the surrounding area were converted into an exclave of the Principality of Anhalt-Köthen within the Principality of Anhalt-Bernburg when the Anhalt inheritance was again divided in 1606 . The first regent of the new country was Prince Ludwig von Anhalt-Köthen . From 1619 to 1620 he had the well-known didactician Wolfgang Ratke imprisoned in the castle tower. On March 27, 1623, a meeting of princes took place in Warmsdorf.

From 1716 until the death of his brother and predecessor in office, the Bach patron Leopold in 1728, the future Prince August Ludwig spent twelve years in Warmsdorf Castle. Warmsdorf was independent for a long time, then a district of the municipality of Amesdorf .

The former Protestant church of Warmsdorf escaped planned demolition in 1985 only due to a lack of financial means. In 1990 it went into private ownership and was converted into a three-story residential building, which today (2017) serves as an accommodation facility.

On January 1, 2010, Amesdorf and Warmsdorf, which had been administered by the city of Staßfurt until then, were incorporated into Güsten.
