The Warthagebirge (Polish Góry Bardzkie ) is located in the Sudetes in southwestern Poland . It forms the edge of the Glatzer Kessel opposite Silesia and lies between the Owl and Reichenstein Mountains . Its name is derived from the pilgrimage site Wartha (Polish Bardo ), which lies outside the Glatzer country and belongs to the powiat Ząbkowicki ( Frankenstein ).
Geography and geology
The Warthagebirge is 18 kilometers long and extends from the pass of Silberberg ( Przełęcz Srebrna ; 583 m ) above Srebrna Góra in a southeast direction to the pass of Neudeck ( Przełęcz Kłodzka ) near Podzamek ( Neudeck ) east of Kłodzko ( Glatz ).
Above Wartha it is broken through by the Glatzer Neisse , which forms a steep valley here and thus divides the Wartha Mountains into an eastern and a western part. The main traffic connections of the Glatzer Kessel to the north run through this valley.
The mountains, which are covered with coniferous forest, consist of deposits of the Kulm Sea ( Lower Carboniferous ), gray wax sandstone and slate. In Wilcza ( Wiltsch ) are found Silurian shale in thin layers.
