Washington is a town in Franklin County in the eastern part of the US -amerikanischen state of Missouri and part of the metropolitan region of Greater St. Louis . The population was 13,243 (as of 2000). Washington was the filming location of the third season of the American television series Town Haul .

history
The city is named after George Washington and was settled during the rule of the Spanish Empire. The city was originally called St. John's Settlement and housed a Spanish supply depot called San Juan del Misuri (1796-1803). Daniel Boone's family and entourage finally settled in the area from 1799. A ferryboat passed the Missouri from 1814 and the area became known as Washington Landing . Urban development took place in 1827, land sales began in 1829; the purchase price was refunded if the buyer built permanent housing on the acquired land within two years.
The first, predominantly German emigrant families arrived in Washington in 1833 and decisively influenced the local population to refrain from slavery . Washington became a strong base of supporters for the American Union Forces during the American Civil War ; the town was under the command of General Sterling Price's troops during the war . Over time, Washington developed into the center of rail and steamboat transport, and various manufacturing industries have also been successfully located there to this day.
Washington has a total of 445 listed buildings, which is unique in Missouri. Due to the historical cityscape, a brisk tourism developed.
