Washington César Santos , Washington for short , (born January 3, 1960 in Valença ; died May 25, 2014 in Curitiba ) was a Brazilian football player .

Career

Washington began his career in 1980 at Galícia EC and was then under contract with various Brazilian clubs and the Portuguese club Varzim SC . In 1983 he signed a contract with Fluminense FC . There he completed 301 league games and scored 118 goals. After playing for other Brazilian and Portuguese clubs, he ended his career in 1996.

After the end of his career, he fell ill with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis . On November 15, the game between Fluminense FC and Athletico Paranaense was called Washington Day . Washington died in Curitiba on May 25, 2014 .
