Washington González (born December 6, 1955 in Florida ) is a former Uruguayan football player .
Career
society
Defensive player González played from 1975 to 1979 for Club Atlético Defensor in the Primera División . He then belonged from 1980 to 1983 to the first division squad Nacional Montevideos . In the 1980 and 1983 seasons, his club won the Uruguayan championship. In 1980 they also won the Copa Libertadores . González played in both finals against SC Internacional from the start. González won the 1980 World Cup with his club through a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on February 11, 1981 , in which he was also on the starting line-up . He also came to the train in the first leg of the Copa Interamericana 1981 . However, Nacional lost after a third playoff against the Mexican club UNAM Pumas . After his time at Nacional, a career stint in Argentina from 1983 to 1985 at the Racing Club followed . In the 1986/87 season an engagement with Platense Vicente López followed. From 1987 to 1991 he was under contract with Parramatta Eagles in Australia .
National team
González was a member of the Uruguayan junior national team , which took part in 1975 under the direction of coach Walter Brienza at the Junior South American Championship in Peru and won the title. He contributed to this with six tournament appearances (no goal). In the same year he was part of the Uruguayan squad at the Pan American Games . Uruguay were eliminated in the preliminary round. He was also a member of the senior team of Uruguay , for which he completed 32 international matches between May 24, 1978 and November 4, 1983. He did not score an international goal. With the Celeste he took part in both the Copa America 1979 and the Copa America 1983 . In his second participation he was with his home country South American champion. In 1979 and 1980 he was used at the Copa Juan Pinto Durán and 1983 at the Copa Artigas . He also got a chance to qualify for the 1982 World Cup .
